hack the north 2026
c++. python. asyncio. websocket. timescaledb.
implementation notes
- fixed a python asyncio control loop stall that triggered the rover's motor watchdog when websocket clients read slowly. limited each client to one send in flight and dropped excess frames.
- implemented avr firmware in c++ for an atmega328p redboard, with acknowledged drive commands over 115200 baud usb serial and a 600 ms motor watchdog independent of the raspberry pi.
- binned lidar returns into 360 bearings per scan and streamed them into timescaledb using batched copy writes. tested against a node protocol simulator and replayed recorded runs.
